Trendspotting: Heavy Metal

Earlier this year when designers showed their Fall 2009 collections on the runway circuit we got a glimpse into what would become one of the hottest Fall trends, metals. That's right, the use of precious metals (gold, silver, copper, nickel and bronze) sparkled on the runways of NYC, Milan and Paris. A futuristic belted dress from Jean Paul Gaultier, a gold sequenced top from Derek Lam, Zac Posen's 70s fab shouldered silver dress and a croc print silver jacket by Giorgio Armani are just a few of the inspired pieces. Alexander Wang, Gucci and Versace took the metals to the handbags with beautiful buckled straps and spikes. And of course, there was the spiked sandals by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy and the copper studded pumps by Prada that had everyone looking forward to the Fall. Well, now we're here.
