Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 2010
Reviews and Runway Photos
Tibi
| Tibi's Spring 2010 Collection is pretty and feminine without being overly sweet. The pastels are fitting for the season along with the silks, cottons and floral prints. The collection is without a doubt ready to wear filled with lovely mini dresses, skirts and blouses. The one shoulder jump suit is perfect for a garden party. And the floral print blazer is a breath of fresh air after seeing hundreds of boring black blazers. Finally, the strappy sandals make a statement with minimal effort. Overall this collection is for women wanting a soft feminine simply divine look. |

Custo Barcelona Spring 2010
| At first glance the designs by Custo Barcelona are loud and overpowering, but when you take a closer look there's an attention to detail that will amaze even the toughest critics. Your eyes will take a minute to adjust to the bright colors and patterns but once they do you might feel a tingle of curiosity to look deeper into the fabrics and craftsmanship. After closely inspecting the clothes you might still feel apprehension about wearing the items but you will appreciate the artist's eye for eccentric patterns, combinations of materials and quality in buttons, sequence, and embroidery. Of course it would have been impossible to process all this information at the designer's fashion show this past September. First of all you can't get that close to the clothes and second the models were in such a hurry that it was hard to even photograph them. We were lucky enough to preview the collection at an event hosted by ASI Marketing Group here in NY, so we had time to handle the items and really take it in. Even though the look is not practical for us personally, it is a seductive collection of fashion forward pieces that are sure to catch attention. |

Narciso Rodriguez Spring 2010 Fashion Show
| Narciso Rodriguez became instantly famous when he designed the dress for Carolyn Bessette's wedding to John F. Kennedy Jr. in 1996. Since then his designs have been worn by Salma Hayek, Sarah Jessica Parker and the first lady Michelle Obama. Last month Rodriguez showed off his Spring 2010 Collection in the tents of Bryant Park. Jessica Alba and Courtney Love watched from the front row as the RTW collection was revealed and here are the photos of the electrifying event. |

Cesar Galindo Spring 2010 Collection
| The Texan Cesar Galindo showed his Spring 2010 collection at the hip Chelsea spot, M2Lounge, on the first day of Fashion Week. The collection's colors worked well with fuchsias and melons alongside darks such as "gunmetal" and black. Galindo, who personally hand sewed 75% of the pieces, combined bright colors and large ruffles without making it seem over-the-top. The "culottes" short pants and the Guggenheim pullover are among our favorite pieces. All in all Galindo's Ready-to-Wear collection is ready to be worn all over town. |

Toni Maticevski shoes and clothing line for Spring 2010
| The Melbourne based designer Toni Maticevski brought his couture like collection to New York last month. Maticevski is a well known designer who's fans include actress/singer/performer Beyonce who's been seen in Toni Maticevski shoes. His shoe designs are fierce with bulky jewelry details that are unique in style and placement. For his Spring 2010 shoe collection, Toni Maticevski has incorporated layers of beads on otherwise simple platform d'orsays. The jeweled accents are present again at the heel and toes. Mr. Maticevski's clothing line is made up of yards and yards of chiffon, lace and tulle. The burnt tulle flower accessory is an amazing display of courage both from the designer and anyone who dares to wear it. The evening gowns are spectacular exhibits of layers upon layers of chiffon and tulle that surprisingly accentuate and highlight the woman's figure. The princess like dresses are fit for a fairytale like night of romance. We hope to see Mr. Maticevski at the tents next season. |

Monarchy by Eric Kim
|
The Monarchy fashion show electrified the senses. The music was hot and the star studded crowd even hotter. The actual Collection was sizzling with amazing metallics, beautiful silks and fierce footwear. The women's shoe for Spring/Summer 2010 are gorgeous, not just sexy but down right sick. This collection is not for women afraid of heights. The platforms are at least 1 3/4" and the heels are approximately 5"!!! We would've liked to have seen more color, however the designs more than compensate for the neutral shades. It was reassuring to see that despite the 5" heels, the models seemed to have no problem walking down the runway. Could it be that the pumps are actually comfortable? The clothing line has something for everyone. The wide leg trouser is made for sipping Champagne aboard a yacht (Champagne and yacht sold separately). The slashed white jeans were a little too 80s for us but we dig the distressed boyfriend jeans. The 'Iekeliene' leather jacket is a must have and the 'Erin' strapless dress should replace the little black dress. The paper bag short and trousers are cute but we're not sure how flattering the bunching at the wait will translate on the average woman, but it looks fabulous on the model! |

Christian Siriano Spring 2010
| Christian Siriano is the hottest designer to come out of Project Runway, although he had been designing way before his big break on the show. Well, we don't care where he came from or how he got here, we're just happy he's here. His Spring 2010 collection is one of the best we saw this month in the Bryant Park Tents. The oversized hats worn with the first looks were so much fun. The designer's inspiration, the notion of luxurious Mediterranean travel, was obvious in the fabrics (silks and chiffons) and colors (blues, Khakis, nudes and blushes) used in his collection. Yes, the clothes were fantastic but we can't help but focus on Mr. Siriano's shoe collection, which will be available at Payless!!! This will be the second season of the Christian Siriano For Payless shoe collection and all the shoes on the runway will be available through Payless only. Some unique features of the shoe collection include the upturned point-toe, the "bull-horn" heels, and exposed stepped platform soles. We are looking forward to seeing this collection at Payless very soon. |

Water's Mood' by Toni Francesc
|
International designers took over the catwalks this year with established designers such as Carolina Herrera, Narciso Rodrigues, Oscar de la Renta, Cesar Galindo and many others. Among such established designers was a newcomer to the Bryant Park Tents- Toni Francesc the Catalonian designer who presented his 'Water's Mood' collection on September 15th. As the title hints, his Spring 2010 collection was inspired by the properties of water. The show started with images of waterfalls, lakes and rain drops reflected on the screens while calming spa-like tunes played. Toni's pieces were delightful and creative without overpowering the sense. The colors were basic, maybe even a little too basic for Spring, but he made it work with the fabrics and the cuts. The trousers and jumpsuits were among our favorites. He really spruced up the average pant with cuts and designs that accentuate the right spots. Toni also designed the footwear which was classic and sturdy, nothing over the top. The only pieces that we don't think will translate to the masses are the plastic purses used throughout the show. Not sure if they're Toni's creations and although they were cool looking, we just don't see women carrying around plastic buckets. All in all, Toni's debut at the Tents was welcomed by the 500 or so attendees who gave a standing ovation and were left wanting more. |

BCBGMAXAZRIA Spring 2010 Fashion Show
|
Our first show in the tents- BCBGMAXAZRIA. Sitting with hundreds of photographers from all over the world pushing and shoving to get the perfect seat- baptism by fire. The lights fade and the audience quiets down in anticipation of an eye-full of the latest creations from the famous design house. The music is loud and exhilarating- a staple of fashion shows- and here comes the first model in a white flowing jersey dress. The girls come out at rapid fire pace, making them hard to photograph, but the dresses are colorful, playful and youthful. The designer re-invents the jersey by wrapping, ruching or draping the fabric to create versatile ready-to-wear dresses. Mixing prints and fabrics creating abstract cuts that cling to the body and pleasing to the eye. Several one-shoulder pieces confirm the trend will be back for another season. While the multi-strap sandals are hot without taking away from the clothes. This line will sell well this Winter thanks to it's versatility and appeal to young women everywhere. We can't wait to get our hands on a pair of those grey multi-strap sandals! Check-out the BCBGMAXAZRIA website. |

Ports 1961 Spring 2010 Fashion Show
| There we were front row of the electrifying Ports 1961 Spring 2010 Fashion Show and we were in for a treat. Tia Cibani takes inspiration from nature (sand, sunset, sea and moon) to interpret Spring 2010 as a flowing river of color and light in Earth's hues. Japanese influences were obvious with Kimono jackets & dresses, Asian print fabrics and even the use of bamboo shoots. Tia's pieces were fitted to the body but had flowing arms and skirts to that gave them a "walking on air" feminine look. Outside of the shoes, the favorite accessories would have to be the transparent belts that hug the waist without interrupting the linear silhouette. The Buff Vechetta one strap tote is unique and sensible while the various clutch handbags are exotic but not very utilitarian. Tia's clothes are soft, feminine and sexy but we couldn't keep our eyes off the shoes! Absolutely stunning origami heels, knotted rope designs and bright color combinations made it hard to look elsewhere. The platforms must be at least two inches high so we can only assume the heel is about 4-5 inches- not very subway friendly, but the traditional pumps and sandals are just as fierce without the chance of a twisted ankle. |

Farah Angsana Couture Fashion Installation
| ShoeSeen.com was at the unveiling of Farah Angsana's Spring 2010 collection at The Royalton Hotel. The Couture collection included beautiful cocktail dresses, gowns and evening dress pants. The designer was inspired by the Balinese goddess and Hindustan culture Dewi. The models absolutely looked like goddesses in soft layers of chiffon and decadent embroideries. The bright reds, turquoise and soft pinks were feminine and the strapless, one shoulder, halter and sweetheart necklines were flattering. Farah's collection is sexy, smart, flattering and fresh. It's a beautiful combination of elegance and youth. The shoes worn by the models are from Michael Antonio. |
