Trends: We Like It Better in the Nude
By Rachel Guillaume
The Summer 2010 fashion season promises a wide range of fun trends from nautical stripes to tribal and safari prints, there’s something for every fashionista. One shoe trend in particular, however, has caught this trend spotter’s eye. It’s one that can be combined with any other Spring trend to produce delicious results. The nude phenomenon has been slowly creeping into the scene for the past few months, but it will crescendo this Summer at the height of sandal season.
Although “nude” is a color that applies to us all you must be wary when shopping for your shade since we’re not all the same color in the nude! Many retailers will label a shoe “nude,” when it’s really more of a “beige” or “tan.” Pay attention to your skin tone when choosing your nude shoes. You will benefit the most from this trend if your shoes match your leg’s skin tone. This is not to say that if you’re fair skinned you can’t wear a pair of dark brown clogs, but you should make sure the color doesn’t wash out your beautiful skin tone. When shopping for sandals you should avoid shades with gray undertones since they can make your skin look dull. Neutral shoes with warm undertones are best for skin colors with warm undertones, and neutral shoes with cooler undertones are best for skin with cool undertones.
There are many fabulous advantages to wearing this “nude” trend:
- They go with anything and everything! Wear a pair of heeled nude clogs with a denim blue shirt-dress for instant Americana chic-ness.
- They can be found in any style of shoe from lace-up biker boots to sexy, cut-out sling-backs.
- They pair perfectly with many of this season’s trendy looks. Safari, military, tribal, and romantic are wonderful trends to pair with a neutral colored shoe of your choice.
- They make your legs look longer! Think about it, if you get a neutral pair that matches well with your skin tone, your legs automatically appear longer, and thus leaner.
